Welcome to the Sparrow Squad's bird management website and forum!

Any bird lover worth their salt knows that the English Sparrow is a destructive force in the world of songbird management. Often times the Purple Martin lovers get most of the attention in this area but let's be honest, the English Sparrow decimates populations of many types of songbirds and they must be controlled.

Aside from the songbird management aspect of controlling this problem species, there is the sanitary side of the house. These birds gather in such a way that they will make a mess out of whatever they decide to perch on and their nesting sites are absolutely disgusting, as well as a health hazard.

Please take the time to register on our forum and join the fight against this horrible problem. On the forum you have the chance to keep record of your bird populations and share what you have found to be effective as well as learn what others are doing. In addition, birds of a feather flock together! It's only fitting that you join our community and be part of a movement that is sweeping across the nation!

Unfortunately, I am not having a good nesting season! I had a pair of chickadees nesting. They build a nest and she was about to lay her first egg (which i was waiting for... to put a hole reducer) The house they picked had a big hole allowing HOSP to enter. Despite my 3 day attempts to chase away sparrows, I end up loosing the female chickadee.
The HOSP killed her when she was in the nest. And they did not even claim the box after it.
I was thinking how to trap them since I had a couple incidents with sparrows escaping boxes with Van Ert trap. (My fault)

And here is what I thought: Why not recreate the nesting in the box - the bird on eggs. Make it look as natural as possible to entice the HOSP to enter faster, banking on the aggressiveness of those birds. So I put a fake bird in there with a fake nest! Thanks Hobby Lobby.
It worked, in spite that the box was empty for quite some time I guess the male sparrow was checking on it time to time. Here is how it looked. I will put an image here.

Now that is entertainment at it's finest. This is a good example of how controlling sparrows can be fun!

Good work!
