Welcome to the Sparrow Squad's bird management website and forum!

Any bird lover worth their salt knows that the English Sparrow is a destructive force in the world of songbird management. Often times the Purple Martin lovers get most of the attention in this area but let's be honest, the English Sparrow decimates populations of many types of songbirds and they must be controlled.

Aside from the songbird management aspect of controlling this problem species, there is the sanitary side of the house. These birds gather in such a way that they will make a mess out of whatever they decide to perch on and their nesting sites are absolutely disgusting, as well as a health hazard.

Please take the time to register on our forum and join the fight against this horrible problem. On the forum you have the chance to keep record of your bird populations and share what you have found to be effective as well as learn what others are doing. In addition, birds of a feather flock together! It's only fitting that you join our community and be part of a movement that is sweeping across the nation!

Thank you for visiting,

I would like to welcome those of you that have been avid defenders of our songbirds and thank you for visiting us.  That being said, it is almost more important to show my appreciation to those that are new to this problem.  Unfortunately, too many people go on about their daily business totally oblivious to the wildlife around them.  Sure, they will stop to appreciate the birds from time to time, but these days most of the time that bird is the English Sparrow it seems.

Alot of people ask me "What is the problem?  Don't they deserve to live as much as the other birds?"  Well of course they do!  They just don't need to live here.  They decimate native songbird populations and wreak havoc on public health standards.  They crush the songbird eggs and eject the babies from the nest to die or kill them outright.  Have you seen the droppings on the patio tables and in the rafters on patios at restaurants?  Usually that's our target, the English Sparrow.

Sadly, even if they aren't directly assaulting the nests of other birds in your area they are highly competitive for food and will run other birds off in order to claim a seed pile.  Sure these other birds have an easier time survivng in the woods, but if they were lpanning on doing that they wouldn't be in your yard.

This next video is taken inside a bluebird nest box and demonstrates how a House Sparrow will attack the nestlings and kill them.  Fortunately the owner of this box was able to chase the sparrow off before it succeeded, but this is tough to watch so discretion is advised for younger viewers:

We are not bird haters or abusers, we are quite the opposite.  We love our native songbirds.  We enjoy watching them and listening to their songs in the morning.  This is not only a pass time and a stress reliever, but we are preserving a little part of our North American heritage and culture in the process.

Believe me when I say that most people aren't happy about the act of destroying sparrows, they just tend to have a bigger problem with how the sparrows are destroying the native birds.  Please join us in this battle, hopefully we will not need an organization like this in the future.
